1. Clothing:
Very expensive here, and even on sale the prices are high. It’s a good idea to plan ahead and bring what you will need with you or find a way to supplement your wardrobe from outside Prague.
2. Drink Driving:
There is a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol and driving; driving with any trace of detected alcohol, however slight, is illegal. Keep this absolute rule in mind when you inevitably encounter the extremely good local beer.
3. Public Transportation:
The public transportation system is magnificent, and can take you anywhere with frequent schedules. Try using it once you arrive and seeing if it fits your needs before getting a car. However, if you need to use taxis try to use one of the more reputable companies.
4. Petty Crime:
As in all bigger cities, pickpockets are common, especially in crowded public transport: subway (green line A, the most frequented by tourists), trams (take care in trams 22, 23 and 9) and other highly populated places like the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and Saint Vitus Cathedral.
5. Language:
Czech is a notoriously difficult language – but getting up to speed with a few pleasantries and other essential words can be a real help. Don’t be put off by the sometimes cool reception this gets from the locals – they actually really appreciate it, but many are just not used to it!
